Disney Cruise Line

Disney had been involved in cruising for a number of years through an agreement with the now defunct Premier Cruise Lines, before the company entered the cruise market with its first own ship in mid-1998. Disney's two sister vessels remind the viewer of the ocean liners of yesteryear, but they feature all the latest amenities and high-tech equipment a modern superliner needs.

silversea Cruise Line

Established in 1992 by the Lefebvre family and Monaco-based V-Ships, Silversea Cruises debuted with its first newbuild, Silver Cloud, in 1994. In contrast to competitor Seabourn Cruise Line, Silversea's ships feature a high number of cabins with private balconies, and they are also much larger than the smaller mega-yachts. Silver Shadow joined the fleet in 2000, followed by Silver Whisper in July, 2001.

seaDream Cruise Line

SeaDream Yacht Club is an innovative, new yachting company that operates the twin, ultra-luxury mega yachts SeaDream I and SeaDream II. When they were originally introduced they soon became the prototypes of the casual and intimate yachting experience. SeaDream Yacht Club has built upon this legacy and today the two sleek and rakish SeaDream yachts are highly acclaimed by discerning travelers seeking a unique seagoing experience and by travel industry observers everywhere. SeaDream Yacht Club was founded in September of 2001 by Norwegian entrepreneur Atle Brynestad who founded Seabourn Cruise Line and Larry Pimentel, who was President of Seabourn under Brynestad and later President and CEO of the merged companies Cunard-Seabourn. Pimentel is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SeaDream and a co-owner. As Sea Dream's Chairman says "We are not a cruise line. We are a yacht company and we provide a yachting experience." Yachting features an open and unstructured ambience that provides guests the ability to fulfill their own dreams call them "seadreams" if you will at their own pace and in their own style. We like to express this as "No clocks, no crowds, no lines, no stress." The key word for the SeaDream yachting experience is "unstructured. It's all about personal choice. Think of it as a free form holiday in which guests fall into a "seadream" and believe that they are aboard their own yacht. That's why we say SeaDream is a yacht company; not a cruise line.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Launched in 1987 - originally the name Signet Cruises was planned - Seabourn Cruise Line is an ultra-luxury cruise operator. The company's original two vessels were later joined by the similar Seabourn Legend. In 1991 already, Carnival Corporation acquired a stake in Seabourn and later took over the line. In 1999, Seabourn Sun and the two Seabourn Goddesses joined the fleet from sister company Cunard. In mid-2001, Seabourn Goddess I & II were sold again, however, and the larger Seabourn Sun was transferred to sister company Holland America Line in April, 2002.

ResidenSea Cruise Line

Regent Seven Seas Cruise Line

There are currently three ships in service; Mariner, Navigator and Voyager. These are small luxury vessels with liquor and gratuities included in the cruise fare. Another small ship, the Explorer II sails in the Galapagos islands.

Crystal Cruise Line

Established in 1988 by Nippon Yusen Kaisha of Japan, the world's largest shipping company, Crystal Cruises offers the comforts of a luxury line and the range amenities of the premium lines' usually larger ships, creating a unique ultra deluxe experience. The company's first ship, Crystal Harmony, entered service in 1990, sister ship Crystal Symphony in 1995 and finally, the Crystal Serenity in 2003. Crystal has consistently won "Best Large Ship" awards from everyone awarding them and is a favorite among cruisers enjoying luxury products.

Oceania Cruise Line

Oceania Cruises was formed in 2002 by cruise industry veterans Joe Watters and Frank Del Rio. Best in class cuisine, destination oriented itineraries, and outstanding value define Oceania Cruises' five-star product and position the company as the cruise line of choice for traditional premium and luxury category cruisers. The onboard atmosphere is relaxed and reminiscent of the casual elegance of a country club. Tuxedos and gowns are never a requirement for dining so you can dress and enjoy the evening comfortably. The overall feeling is one that is never stuffy and void of any pretension. You will enjoy the flexibility of four open seating restaurants; you dine when, where and with whom you choose. Holland America Cruise Line

Launched in the 1870s when the original Rotterdam made its inaugural trans-Atlantic crossing from Rotterdam to New York, the Holland America Line as it is known today is one of the oldest companies in the passenger shipping business. A major player in Alaska through its subsidiary Westours, HAL was acquired by Carnival Corporation in 1989. Up to now, the company has offered its premium cruises on mid-sized ships, but as part of an ambitious newbuilding program five new 84,000 gt superliners will enter service with Holland America until 2006.

Celebrity Cruise Line

One of the youngest of the big cruise lines, Celebrity Cruises was established in 1989 by the Chandris Group, a Greek company that has been in the passenger shipping business since the 1920s. Celebrity's first ship was the former liner Meridian, followed by the company's first newbuild, Horizon. One of Celebrity's hallmarks is its award-winning cuisine, created and supervised by three-star Michelin master chef Michel Roux. All five new Celebrity ships that entered service between 1990 and 1997 were constructed at the renowned German Jos. L. Meyer shipyard (commonly known as the Meyer Werft). In 1997 Royal Caribbean Cruises acquired Celebrity Cruises. As part of an aggressive newbuilding program, Celebrity cruises has launched four brand-new 91,000 gt Millennium-class superliners since mid-2000.

Princess Cruise Line

Launched in 1965 with a single ship, the chartered Princess Patricia, Princess Cruises was acquired by the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) in 1974. In 1975 the company's Pacific Princess became the star of the world-famous TV series, "The Love Boat", making her one of the best-known cruise ships in the world. In 1988 Sitmar Cruises was taken over, adding four additional ships to the fleet. P&O's cruise division was demerged from the mother company in 2000 and is now named P&O Princess Cruises. In 2003, Princess was acquired by Carnival Corporation and will be operated as a separate brand within Carnival. With five new ships on order and two former Renaissance Cruises vessels about to join the fleet, Princess will further expand its popular "Personal Choice Cruising" experience.

NCL Cruise Line

One of the oldest of the modern cruise lines that had not been in the ocean liner business, Norwegian Cruise Line was established - originally under the name Norwegian Caribbean Line - by Norwegian entrepreneur Knut Kloster and Ted Arrison, who later started his own company, Carnival Cruise Lines, in 1966 with a single ship, the Sunward. Kloster added four new ships until 1971, and in 1979 his decision to purchase the former pride of the Grande Nation, the S/S France, made the public sit up and take world-wide notice of his company. The former liner was skillfully converted into cruising's very first superliner, S/S Norway, by Germany's Lloyd Werft shipyard in 1980. She became the prototype of the huge cruise ships of the 1990s and the new millennium. In 1990 S/S Norway was further enlarged by adding two completely new decks. One of the last grand liners of yesteryear to sail the seven seas, the Norway continues to offer traditional cruises in a unique environment. Norwegian Cruise Line accepted delivery of two brand-new ships in 2001, the 80,000 gt Norwegian Sun and the 91,000 gt Norwegian Star. A second 91,000 gt vessel, Norwegian Dawn, will follow in 2002. NCL's innovative "Freestyle Cruising" concept has impressed passengers world-wide, and has already found imitators among competing cruise lines.

MSC Cruise Line

Originally established under the name Flotta Lauro, this cruise was taken over by the Mediterranean Shipping Company, one of the largest shipping operators in the world, in 1990. Today, Mediterranean Shipping Cruises operates three cruise ships, but the company also has one more 60,000 gt newbuild in order for delivery in 2004, respectively. MSC caters to a primarily European clientele, but more and more U.S. passengers who prefer a more traditional European cruise experience with fellow passengers from many different countries have chosen the cruise line in recent years.

Costa Cruise Line

Launched in 1860 as a freighter company that exported Italian olives and olive oil to destinations all over the world, Costa Crociere entered the passenger ship business in the 1940s with the second-hand Anna C. In 1959 Costa began to offer Caribbean cruises aboard the Franca C. When the end of the grand liners came in the 1970s, Costa's vessels were converted into cruise ships. Carnival Cruise Line

Founded by cruise visionary Ted Arison in 1972, Carnival Cruise Lines had a very rocky start when its first ship, the former ocean liner Mardi Gras, ran aground off Miami on its maiden voyage. And while the competitors made fun of Arison by offering "Mardi Gras on the Rock" drinks aboard their ships, Carnival added two more former liners to its fleet. In 1981 the company's first newbuild, Tropicale, entered service, which was the beginning of a story of a tremendous and unparalleled success: from 1981 to late 2001, Carnival put into service 18 new ships, with five more on order until 2004. Today the world's largest cruise line, Carnival offers the well-known and extremely popular "Fun Ship" concept with colorful interiors and non-stop action around the clock. 99

AVALON WATERWAYS

As a member of the Globus family of brands, Avalon Waterways, established in 2003, is backed by 80 years of experience in planning itineraries and guiding vacations around the world.

Being part of a larger tour company seems to be a great fit for a river cruise company. While on a river cruise, it can frequently seem much like a "motor coach tour" because of all the destination-based activities. But there are two important differences - you only have to unpack once, and the ship, as your primary transportation rather than a coach, mostly travels at night while you sleep.

The Globus family of brands began as a small family company with one man and a rowboat in 1928. Antonio Mantegazza, the company's founder, used his rowboat to transport commercial goods across Lake Lugano in Switzerland. While taking frequent trips across the scenic lake, Antonio began dreaming of a different opportunity - tourism.

Over time, his entrepreneurial instinct and drive led him to acquire motorcoaches to transport tourists around the Lake Lugano area in southern Switzerland. By 1961, the company launched the Cosmos brand, featuring value-priced European touring for the cost-conscious British traveler. Beginning in 1974, under the flagship of Sergio Mantegazza, son of Antonio and current president of Globus, the company's brands began expanding their markets beyond Great Britain.

By the 1970s, Globus showed travelers more countries than any other tour operator including Africa, Australia, North and South America, Southeast Asia, Europe and the South Pacific. Also in the early '70s, Globus launched its North American company - Group Voyagers - overseeing U.S. tour operations and the American market for the Globus and Cosmos brands.

In 2003, the Globus family of brands launched Avalon Waterways, a river boat cruise company offering primarily European river cruises but also offering the Nile (Egypt), Yangtze (China) and adventure cruises in the Galapagos Islands near Ecuador.

Avalon Waterways has a young fleet of eight ships. They are so new that the average of their vessels by 2008 averaged a mere two years old. They are uniquely suited to the destination each calls home:

French Cuisine

Starting with the Middle Ages that brought rich banquets to the French Revolution, where refined techniques were used, French Cuisine can be called in the 21st century “haute cuisine”. It is as popular as the poetry or French arts, a meal at a restaurant comparing to “a sort of theatre you can eat”. Pastries are a large part of French cooking. Cheese and wine are also a major part of the cuisine, being perhaps the most famous of all. The modern restaurant has its roots in French culture so restaurants are bountiful, but as for recommendation before deciding on one. In Paris alone, there are over 5,000 places to eat, with prices and menus to suit anyone’s taste

Italian Cuisine

Perhaps one of the oldest in the world, the Italian cuisine can be traced back to the 4th century BC. It became what is today along with the discovery of the New World, that brought potatoes, tomatoes pepper or maize on the list of ingredients. An Italian meal is structured into several sections: antipasto (the appetizer), primo (pasta or rice dish), secondo (meat course), dolce (dessert). Italy is also famous for over 400 kinds of cheese, including the famous Parmigianino Reggiano, and 300 types of sausages.

Chinese Cuisine

Originated in various parts of China and now spread throughout the world, Chinese cuisine is now eaten by a third of the world’s population every day. The cuisine is easy to create, economical and tasty. Most of the food is prepared in bite-sized pieces because the Chinese culture regards knives and forks as weapons. Usually, every person at the table is given a bowl of rice while the other dishes are shared by everyone at the table. Some dishes are cooked from endangered species, such as facai moss while others from meat you would want to avoid such as dog
